Room to Breathe

Nov 6, 2013

Blowing_windEven the wind breathes.
Its intervals may be long or short.

It is the inhale which needs room.
Breath cannot happen without space—
lungs expand,
ribs and muscles stretch,
clothing gives way,
dust moves aside.

Particles of air know this, as
they themselves are mostly empty space.

An organism stakes its claim in the world
by expanding long enough to breathe.
We allow one another to do this,
and we marvel,
