I’m From…

Mar 1, 2015

I’m from mountains and sycamore trees, from white oleomargarine that needs to be massaged with yellow coloring. I’m from homemade sandwiches to take to school for lunch. I’m from an unlocked house that is empty from morning to dinnertime, and I spend time there or at my grandma’s house next door after school doing my homework.

I’m from an apartment and a new marriage and children on the way. I’m from beach towns and music from the piers and all that cool jazz.

I’m from heartbreak, from single mom-hood and dreams for a better life. I’m from college studies that began when I was 41, and from graduation from higher ed as the first one in my family to do so.

I’m from serenity and choice and love to share and service to render.

I’m from the universe.

Elsa M. J. Seifert:

I have lived in Altadena for 35 years and always made my home near Pasadena. I truly love this place. I raised my three sons here and am not figuring to leave. Southern California has been home for me—working here and editing a newspaper here. Now I volunteer, working with homeless women and the hungry.

And, I write. I write as much as I can.
