Wined, Dined & Sung To

May 31, 2015

a-steinway-piano-modesto-IMG_3470-smallerFor the sake of a grand piano, guests must endure a homemade meal made by classically-trained Chef Joe Lauer of The Market Grill in Monrovia and his wife Kelly, served al fresco in a courtyard while listening to a varied musical show, followed by wine and dessert. (We think we can “endure” an evening like this!)

In past years, the Lauer’s main entrée has included lasagna and boeuf bourguignon. This year—braised leg of lamb.

St. Luke the Physician, Episcopal Church is in the market for a new Steinway grand piano. To achieve that end, it hosts the 3rd annual fundraiser on June 7th, to be held in the sanctuary, “a space known for its legendary acoustics.” The show includes instrumental works, a drummer, the church choir, guitar, and guest vocalists. From a little opera to Roberta Flack.

With roots in Monrovia dating to the 1890s, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is an inclusive church that welcomes all to its community. The superb acoustics of the landmark 1924 Romanesque church make it a popular site for music performances. The Reverend Neil Tadken is Rector. SaintLukesMonrovia.org. (Official text)
