6a00d83455629c69e2019afff187d8970bImagine if Shakespeare’s best villains were taken out of their respective plays, reassembled Frankenstein-style, and finally got to be the focus of their own stories.

Did you ever think you’d read “Shakespeare” and “Frankenstein” in the same sentence? But so it shall be as California Shakespeare Ensemble presents VILLAINS at the Lineage Performing Arts Center starting October 27th.

CSE Artistic Director Brian Elerding has snagged Shylock, Macbeth, and Tybalt and molded them into a new scenario, their separate stories edited into one, all while remaining true to Shakespeare’s original words.

The cast includes Alex Weed of Pretty Little Liars, CSI: NY, and Criminal Minds; Fred Cross of The Joe Schmo Show and a Second City alumnae; Samantha Whittacker who played Ophelia in Trevor Nunn’s Hamlet at the Old Vic in London; and Samantha Sloyan, recurring on ABC’s Scandal.

…some of The Bard’s more complex villains may actually show us how much evil is in all of us…
