And boy does it ever. Christmas is a musical holiday, maybe the most musical of all. It’s been celebrated in many genres, from rock (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, anyone?) to techno, to, of course, classical. There’s something about jazz, though, that makes for a really special holiday feeling. If you want to share in that feeling, and help a good cause, get yourself some tickets to the Pasadena Jazz Institute’s benefit concert, The Nutcracker Swings: A Cool Jazz Christmas. Come hear some of Pasadena’s finest (as well as some imported talent) perform A Charlie Brown Christmas, The Nutcracker Swings and other Christmas favorites. Performers include the Pasadena Jazz Orchestra, the Red White + Bluezz All Stars, the Sacred Nation Gospel Choir, Renee Olstead, James Tormé (yes, Mel’s son) and more. The concert starts at 7, with doors opening at 6 for drinks and an optional holiday dinner. Fence-sitters be warned: Tickets go fast.
