Christmas is nigh. If you are like me, and I am like everybody else, then you are being bombarded with an unceasing barrage of holiday media: jingles, songs, trinkets, images. This is what the holidays are all about, and is delightful—up to a point. Sometimes one needs a break from all the reds and greens, to experience something decidedly un-seasonal, in order to enjoy the season to its fullest. To that end, we recommend stopping by 24 Smith Alley at One Colorado (the walkway behind Il Fornaio), where, on Wednesdays and weekends through January 10, you will find The Artist Studio, a joint project with the Armory that has turned a former storefront into “an ongoing collaborative installation between viewer and artist.”
Basically, artist-in-residence Carly Steward has made of the storefront an exhibition space, filled it with objects, and now works with visitors to rearrange everything as they see fit. The results are photographed, and will wind up in a book. If you’ve ever wanted to make your own art installation, now’s your chance.
