If you pay much attention to local bureaucratic outrages, you’ve probably heard rumblings about the Coffee Gallery Backstage’s problems with the county, which have worked themselves out, sort of: the county isn’t going to shut them down, but because the CGB is in a mixed-use area, they need a conditional use permit, which means they need to spend about $20,000 on surveys and permits and other stuff by February 15th, which is soon.
To raise some of that money, they’re hosting a few benefit concerts, or “rent parties,” in which 100% of the ticket sales will go towards the county permit piggy bank. Up next Wednesday (the 8th) are acoustic folkers Scott Gates and his Salty Suites (Chuck Hailes and Chelsea Williams), along with local wunderkind Phoebe Bridgers, who we’ve been writing about forever.
If you read these posts, chances are you’ve at least driven by the Coffee Gallery. It’s an important part of this place. Let’s keep it that way.
