Step Afrika! at Caltech

Mar 7, 2011

What do you call a tap dance with no shoes? A band with no instruments? According to Caltech, you call it Step Afrika!, a Washington, D.C.-based troupe of professional steppers. Steppers? Steppers. Stepping is percussive dance—kicking, stomping, clamping, chanting—sans shoes, and with, as the name suggests, an African dance heritage. Step Afrika! purports to be the first ever troupe devoted especially to stepping. The Hometown-Pasadena staff factchecker is, ah, on holiday, so this claim will have to go unverified. So here’s a video of SA! doing their thing. Pretty nifty.
