Not only is the Pasadena Playhouse back, but it’s more ambitious than ever—it’s launching its second original musical in six months. This one is called South Street, and it’s a musical comedy set on Philadelphia’s South Street. The music and lyrics are by songwriter Richard Addrisi (best known for the Association hit “Never My Love”), and the book is by Craig Carlisle (The Beachcombers); it sounds like the creative team is going for effervescent, feel-good singing and dancing, including some hip-hop choreography to stay hep with the young folks.
They’re running a great deal for opening weekend: $25 for a ticket to the play on Friday or Saturday night, and that includes a glass of wine before or after the show at chic neighboring wine bar Monopole.
In previews September 16-24; opens September 27
39 S. El Molino Ave., Pasadena
