Hyperbole: When Jeff Bridges won an Oscar for his portrayal of Bad Blake in Crazy Heart, it was on Ryan Bingham’s coattails. Not hyperbole: Ryan Bingham is a great alt-country singer-songwriter, who won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his tune “The Weary Kind,” which Jeff Bridges performs in the movie—with Bingham and his Dead Horses as backup. Texas Music Magazine said that at 29, he had the same gravelly, hard-living whiskey throat as Tom Waits at 50, which is really all the endorsement any alt-country musician should need. He’ll be playing the Levitt this Thursday.
