The city of Pasadena and Pasadena Pops, with sponsorship from Target and Parsons, are kicking off summer with a free concert and festival this Sunday on the square in front of City Hall. Bring beach chairs, a picnic supper and, if the June gloom holds, a sweater, and stake out your seat by 5:30 p.m., which is when the pre-concert community performances begin. The roster includes a dance lesson for the whole crowd by a choreographer from Dancing with the Stars, a performance by Rose City Ballroom dancers, and young actors and singers from Theater 360 staging highlights from their upcoming season.
At 7:30 maestro Rachael Worby and the Pops orchestra will perform pieces they’re prepared for their 2009 Descanso Gardens season, along with some classic American tunes. Joining the orchestra for some numbers will be Broadway singer Valerie Pettiford and a community chorus comprising singers from the Hollywood Master Chorale, the Burbank Chorale, the St. Francis de Sales Chorale and the Philippine Chamber Singers.
