Over the Moon & Under the Stars

993885_512357478952197_2677264538477092901_nWe admit we publish a lot of pieces promoting exhibits at the Cactus Gallery. This is because we continue to be enamored of the variety of works that the artists create and the varied exhibitions that Cactus owner Sandra Mastroianni produces.

From Tiny Treasures, Dollmakers, and Birdly Delights to Day of the Dead and ¡Loteria!, Cactus Gallery exhibitions are frequent and distinctive. Works come in the form of paintings, paper mache, sculpture, embroidery, collages, and assemblages using everything from antique linen to re-purposed wood.

Opening on April 9, Cactus Gallery presents “Over the Moon and Under the Stars.”

Ulla Anobile and 12 female artists explore what these universal symbols mean to them personally, or in their background and cultures. The interpretations can be literal, symbolic, spiritual, humorous, questioning, wondering, awe-filled … and most importantly, inspired and personal, bringing into visual form how the Moon and the Stars resonate in one’s art and one’s psyche.

Thirteen artists were chosen because it ties into the 13 moons that many alternative spiritual traditions suggest/recommend; 13 months, each 28 days long rather than what we have now. (Cactus Gallery)
