Naomi, Huneven, Jervey & More

bookstore_pasadena-ca-91101_202221Most people know that when it comes to Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley—the woman sitting at the next table eating an arepa at Amara Chocolate, the man enjoying a Hangar 24 at the Alehouse in Altadena, the dude driving the restored 1965 Mustang convertible who’s tires are screeching as he navigates the Avenue 60 northbound offramp on the 110, or the young lady trying to choose between a 60s jewel-tone cocktail dress and a pink bolero jacket with ostrich feathers from High Low Vintage—anyone could be one of the area’s beloved authors. You can hardly walk two feet without bumping into an author. And, we love it. The more writes, authors, and books the better, we say.

On November 7th, Vroman’s Bookstore celebrates its 120th anniversary with author readings by some of our favorite local authors: Naomi Hirahara, Michelle Huneven, Jervey Tervalon, Mark Salzman, Denise Hamilton, and Luis Rodriguez. They will be reading from one of their own, original short stories.

On Saturday, November 8th, at 11 a.m., author Lisa See will be the inaugural author to put her handprints and signature in cement for Vroman’s Author Walk of Fame. Grauman’s Theater’s very own cement artist Sassan Shakoori is coming to do the honors. Afterwards, a special reception will be held with everyone welcome to come raise a toast to Vroman’s Bookstore. Cheers to the next 120 years!
