If you’re in west Pasadena/Altadena, Eagle Rock or La Cañada this Saturday, make sure to cast your eyes heavenward between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. That’s when artist Bruce Nauman, in conjunction with the Armory Center for the Arts, will create a skywriting work called “Leave the Land Alone” in the sky above the Arroyo Seco.
Some of the Armory’s partners are hosting gathering sites so people can watch together. Lineage Dance will host a group on the La Loma Bridge, NewTown will gather on the west end of the Colorado Street Bridge, the Pasadena Arts Council will occupy the east end of the Colorado bridge, and Side Street Projects will rendezvous in the Brookside parking lot at the corner of Seco and Arroyo Blvd.
Nauman, who used to live and work in Pasadena, first conceived this project in 1969 but was unable to make it happen back then. The Armory helped make it happen this time. This marks Nauman’s first solo institutional project in Los Angeles since 1984.
Please go to the Armory’s site to discover an exciting roster of free, public art installations going on throughout the fall: armoryarts.org.
