It’s Tweet Treats…and All That Jazz

Sep 30, 2014

LCI_Web_Apr2011_Succulent_BirdhouseThis is the first year of this event and we think it’s a fun idea. Gardeners and architects—actually, officially, the Pasadena Community Gardens and the Pasadena & Foothill Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (what a mouthful!)—are partnering to raise money for architectural scholarships and water-wise plants in the community garden by hosting “Tweet Treats…and All That Jazz” on October 4th.

From our initial post, we’re hoping that a few readers took up the challenge to join the birdhouse-building competition, either by themselves, in a group, or as a project with their children. Builders are to come and present their birdhouses at the community gardens on Pasadena Avenue on the morning of the event (8-9:30 a.m.) and some of the houses—ones that the creators can bear to donate— will be auctioned. Besides a silent auction, a raffle will be held, Pasadena Water & Power will have a table, and even Huntington Hospital will be on site giving out flu shots (but only 50, so get there early; the event opens to the public at 11 a.m.).

The Pasadena Fireman’s grilling team will be cooking up dogs, which are free—though a drop in the donation box for burn victims, children, will be appreciated. Jim McCarty Jazz will serenade the crowd, Whole Foods will have fruit and cookies, and don’t forget to put in your two cents on Pasadena Community Gardens “wish list tree.”
