With an unexpected return of a certain someone, Olivia’s “hard-won perfection begins to unravel” and “she is forced to confront the most painful truth of all: sometimes who we become isn’t who we really are.”

Palmer is the author of Seeing Me Naked, Conversations with the Fat Girl, A Field Guide to Burying Your Parents, and Girl Before a Mirror.

Vroman’s, 693 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena 91101. VromansBookstore.com.

I took a crazy challenge in September, 2014: to pay my rent using only the money I made writing poetry. It was the beginning of an insane poetic journey that has me writing haikus for tech companies and flying to North Dakota to make poems at people.

I write and perform commissioned poetry on-the-spot at events based on your word, topic, or story on a manual typewriter.

“Uncle” Ruthie Buell

Why “Uncle” Ruthie, you might ask. The early days of radio programming for children were populated by announcers with names like “Uncle Bob” and “Uncle Fred,” so she decided on a whim for one program to identify herself as “Uncle Ruthie,” and the name has stuck for half a century!
