Holiday Candlelight 2014

Sep 30, 2014

Snowflake Pine Xmas WreathWe know it’s appalling, exasperating, and plain yucky to be promoting a Christmas event when we haven’t even celebrated Halloween, which is antithetical to the spirit of the holiday, but tickets for the Pasadena Symphony‘s Holiday Candlelight concert are already a third sold. So we’re spreading the word early, especially to those who have yet to experience this magical evening.

The concert is held in the “architecturally exquisite and acoustically sonorous” All Saints Church, which is reminiscent of a European cathedral. For the holidays, the nave is festooned with evergreen wreaths, red boughs, and garlands, two large Christmas trees stand behind the choir and poinsettias frame the bottom of the chancel stained glass window, while the lectern and pulpit are draped with garlands and red wreaths. It’s a sight to behold.

Conductor Grant Cooper leads the Symphony, the Los Angeles Children’s Choir, the Donald Brinegar Singers, the handbell choir L.A. Bronze, and soprano Susan Egan through traditional and diverse holiday songs, all “performed by candlelight—an aural respite that is sure to summon the spirit of the season.”
