I don’t believe we’ve ever done a post on Boston Court without gushing about what a wonderful addition it is to the cultural life of Pasadena. If we did, it was clearly an oversight. They take a lot of risks, which is one way of saying they do a lot of new plays, like last season’s How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found, which we saw and liked and then didn’t review, the shame.
Their next play is so new that it’s never been seen—a world premiere. It’s called Heavier than…, and if we are reading the descriptive summary correctly, it’s sort of like John Gardner’s Grendel, but in Greece instead of Scandinavia. Aster the Minotaur has to deal with an estranged mother, a devious sister, a pervy little Icarus, and the imminent arrival of people who want to kill him. It’s about families, you might say. Go see it. Previews are this week, with the world premiere (!) slated for this Saturday.
