Hats—what are they good for? Well, they offer protection from the elements. And they can be quite fashionable, of course. And, perhaps most importantly, they serve as fairly prominent symbols of socio-economic status (honestly, what doesn’t these days?). If you’ve ever been curious about these sorts of things as they pertain to hats, especially women’s hats—especially women’s hats from roughly 1860 to 1960—then you should get thyself to the Pasadena Museum of History (or PMH, a new acronym for us), where the exhibit Mad for Hats! explores these very ideas, with more than 100 hats on display, as well as photographs. You might say that with this exhibit they’ve scored a… hat-trick.
