On Saturday, January 25th, twenty museums will be open to the public with free admission. Choices include the Autry, the California African American Museum, the Science Center, and locally, the Armory Center for the Arts, USC Pacific Asia Museum, and the Pasadena Museum of California Art.
The Armory is currently showing Home Away, which is a group exhibition that considers global citizenship through the lens of artistic production. Also on view are hand-carved and hand-painted birds in A Far Country: Gaman Birds of Masato Wayne Sumida and scuptural work that “calls attention to an unspoken sensation of uncertainty that resides within” in Karen Lofgren: Stabilizers.
The USC Pacific Asia Museum has their permanent exhibits: Art of Pacific Asia, the Arts of Korea, and the Arts of China. The other current exhibits are Ralli Quilts: Contemporary Textiles from Pakistan and Focus on the Subject: The Art of the Harari Collection.
PMCA is currently exhibiting paintings and murals by modernist Alfredo Ramos Martínez, silkscreens and printmaking in Serigrafia, “capturing momentous cultural and political events and experiences,” and highlighting the homesteads of the Mojave Desert is Flora Kao: Homestead.
