Also upcoming at the Playhouse is a reading of a new play Toypurina:
The Mission Playhouse staff is collaborating with the Gabrieleno Tongva San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians on a new play Toypurina. It follows the life of a remarkable Native American woman who led a rebellion in 1785 against the San Gabriel Mission, after seeing her people suffer at the hands of the settlers. She was captured, imprisoned and forced to live in exile in Monterey, far away from her homeland and people. The play is being co-written by Matthew Lovio and Andrew Morales, who are working with director Jonathan Salisbury on developing a performance script. With sufficient funding, a full production of the play will be presented in July 2014. (MissionPlayhouse.org)
Toypurina, Thursday, Nov. 21st, 7 p.m. Event is free, though donations are welcome. RSVP here to reserve a seat. Any questions or to rsvp by phone, contact Jonathan Salisbury at 626.308.2865.
Elite Ballet Theatre is honoring Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky with highlights from Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker. Tickets are $28 and will be available one hour prior to performance.
