Barbara Morrison at the Levitt

Jun 21, 2011

Last year, the Levitt Pavilion’s free summer concert series was called “Free Music Under the Stars.” This year, it just seems to be called “Free Summer Concert Series,” which is a perfectly fine name, if a bit utilitarian. What’s in a name, though, as long as there is music? And there will be music: fifty concerts in just over two months, starting, well, starting with Make Music Pasadena, but really starting this Wednesday, Children’s Night, with puppets. You can check the week’s calendar here, but we’re betting you’re going to be most interested in Sunday’s show: jazz giant Barbara Morrison. She is such a giant, in fact, that she has her own performing arts center. And if you Google “Barbara Morrison at the Levitt,” the first results are YouTube videos of her 2009 performance. Sounds like fun. The “Lady of the Levitt,” they call her, and with good reason.
