A Whiskey Winter Party

Dec 17, 2013

whistlepigfeatureThe “Chandelier Room” at Santa Anita Park has been renovated and this historic site—as well as the holidays—shall be celebrated in an interesting fashion.

Normally, December 26th is viewed as a kick back and chill day or a return all the horrid presents day, but this year it’s time for a little partying. Look at is a prelude to New Year’s Eve, helping fine tune and prep your constitution for the year’s foremost night of alcoholic consumption.

Santa Anita officially opened Christmas Day in 1934. The Chandelier Room coined its name in 1947 after the chandeliers were purchased in the UK, shipped over to Santa Anita and installed to the then remodeled Turf Club. In 2013, Santa Anita embarked on a grand renovation project of the room, which focused on blending the room’s classic design and bold colors fashioned with today’s luxurious amenities and technology. Whippersnapper“Unlimited tastings” will be offered from “a set of fine whiskey purveyors.” Also, it is promised that prosecco will be “continuously flowing” and attendees will be able to enjoy “a deliciously catered spread of contemporary classics”—all while placing bets on the races if you so choose.

Featured whiskeys include Breakers Bourbon, Kentucky bourbon from Calumet; Koval‘s organic whiskey; Lexington; Whippersnapper: Oregon Spirit Whiskey; and Whistle Pig, which is created by “prodigy” Dave Pickerell who has a resume “boasting…the restoration of George Washington’s personal distillery” (Cigar Brief).

Breakers Bourbon is from Ascendant Spirits in Buellton, Santa Barbara County. It is blended from “just” eight barrels—and bottled on March 10th, 2013. “A great new offering from another awesome craft-distillery” (HiTimeWine). Ascendant Spirits also makes corn whiskey moonshine, in a stoppered jug no less.

There will be live music and full cash bar in addition to complimentary valet and a commemorative Chandelier Room at Santa Anita Park flask with purchase of admission.
