Optime, adv. Best, better.
Soroptimist International was founded in 1921 and is “a world-wide service organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls.”
Soroptimists Atladena/Pasadena was chartered in 1950 and 1941, respectively. They offer awards such as the Women’s Opportunity Award that “assists women with primary financial responsibility for their families to obtain the skills training and education necessary to improve their employment status and standard of living for themselves and their family.”
The holiday season kicks off with Soroptimist Altadena/Pasadena’s 18th Annual Silent Auction on November 3rd. Their fiesta-themed event will feature original artwork, including watercolors by award-winning artist JoAnn Formia and oil paintings by Lynn Fearman.
Other donations include visits to Disneyland; bleacher seats to the 2014 Rose Parade; spa dates; gift baskets; gift cards to Green Street, El Patron, and Wood Ranch BBQ & Grill; and tickets to the Huntington Library, the Ice House Comedy Club, A Noise Within, and the Pasadena Playhouse.
Proceeds from this event enable SIA/P to provide scholarships to “deserving young women” and support non-profit agencies that serve women and girls in the community, such as Door of Hope, The Women’s Room, the Cancer Support Community, and Foothill Unity Center.
