Crowns Opens at Playhouse

Jul 13, 2009

crowns_web_early_artNewly opened on the main stage at Pasadena Playhouse is Crowns, a musical that premiered in Washington D.C. and won four Helen Hayes awards. Written by Regina Taylor, the play is based on an acclaimed coffee-table book, Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats. The play uses musical portraits to explore the lives of six Southern “hat queens.” A co-production with the Ebony Repertory Theatre, this production made its local premier in Los Angeles in May and earned excellent reviews and a Critic’s Pick designation from the Los Angeles Times.
