Rosso Wine Shop

May 25, 2010

Tiny Rosso doesn’t try to compete with the big guys; instead, owner Jeff Zimmitti focuses on France, Spain, Italy and California, selecting the best-value wines that go well with food. The result is a user-friendly shop that’s a great addition to north Glendale’s burgeoning “gourmet gulch” on Verdugo Road. Pick up a bottle to enjoy with a very good dinner at Bashan next door, and consider stopping by on Friday or Saturday between 5 and 8 p.m. for the friendly, informal and affordable (usually $10 to $15 a flight) tastings. Stock up if you find something you like, because the smaller-producer wines, like the under-$12 Italians we’ve found here, can go fast.
