How about a bowl of bourride, a Provençal fish stew with garlic mayonnaise from the French Chef Cookbook to celebrate Julia Child’s 100th birthday? Then you’d better make a reservation at The Royce at the Langham, whose menu is designed by New American cuisine chef David Fèau.

Or start an evening with one of Julia’s favorite cocktails—the Upside Down Martini—to be offered at the StillRoom, which will also be serving one of her favorite dishes, rack of lamb.

Besides these two restaurants, a/k/a: an American Bistro, POP Champagne and Dessert Bar, Bistro 45, Maison Akira, Cheval Blanc Bistro, and Vertical Wine Bistro will be participating in creating Julia Child-like menus, August 7th-15th.

Paupiette of sole with salmon mousse served with lobster sauce, boeuf bourguignon, rabbit ragout or petite filet with green peppercorns followed by butterscotch pot au crème or mousseline au chocolat. Are you tempted yet? Have we caught you in between meals with your stomach growling? You’ll have a whole week, you can try them all!

Along with David Fèau, chefs Sam Goldman, James Lambrinos, Steven Lona, Akira Hirose, and Laurent Quenioux will be whipping up Child’s well-known and favorite dishes, as well as channeling their inner Julia to create their own dishes.

On August 15th, the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Citywide Cocktail Party as part of JC100, a nationwide effort to celebrate Julia Child’s 100th birthday. At 7 p.m., patrons at all participating restaurants will raise their glass in a toast to the venerated local. You’re encouraged to “dress like Julia” at Toro Sushi. If that’s not a possibility, dress for a 50s- or 60s-era cocktail party, or even up to the 70s if your closet only goes back that far. Going all out is 300 Pasadena, which is preparing 1950s appetizers and a 50s-themed bowling and cocktail party.

This CCP event also kicks off the 6-week SIP-tember, which is a celebration of the cocktail (August 15-September 27), that includes cocktail competitions with brackets of categories, and culminates in a live taste-off at Paseo Colorado to determine “Pasadena’s favorite cocktail.” Brackets will be revealed at the end of July.
