It’s in honor of Beatrice Laura Stathatos, wife of Dan Stathatos (founder of Broadway Flowers and STATS Floral Supply), and mother of Dan, Philip, Michael, and Damon, that another new shop has opened: the Bea’s Knees.
Besides the renowned Dean & DeLuca out of New York City, Lisa Grabow of Themis Foods intends Bea’s Knees Wine, Cheese & Gifts is to sell fun, fresh, healthy, delicious foods and as many products by local artisans as possible. She stocks Forge Coffee Roasters, Soft Peaks with no artificially-colored macarons, Bloom with 100% pure raw honey, June Taylor’s conserves and marmalades, and Valerie chocolates.
An alluring cheese case has Point Reyes blue cheese; Ameribella (an American version of Lindberger); The Drunken Goat; and Ekte Geitost, a caramelized milk, dessert cheese. A great name in the case is Fat Bottom Girl from Bleating Heart Cheese out of Sonoma. Lisa says it is hard cheese from sheep’s milk that is aged for 2-3 months and hand rubbed with a secret solution. It is buttery and nutty. Lisa suggests eating it with a good ale or a fruity wine.
Gift baskets take up the middle of the shop and are perfect, easy gifts for late holiday shopping.
Note: The process for permission to sell wine is detailed and time intensive, but Lisa says wine should be available, in store, by December 22nd!
