Avec Eric: Chef Ripert in Conversation with Jonathan Gold

Chef-Eric-RipertEric Ripert is executive chef and co-owner of Le Bernardin restaurant in New York City.

Born in France, Ripert attended culinary school in Perpignan and moved to the U. S. in 1989. By 1994 and at the age of 29, he was executive chef at Le Bernardin and earned a 4-star rating from the New York Times. In 2003, Ripert was declared “Outstanding Chef of the Year” by the James Beard Foundation, and in Michelin’s NYC 2006 guide, Le Bernardin was only one of four NYC restaurants to be awarded the maximum of three Michelin stars for excellence in cuisine.

Ripert has had two TV shows called Avec Ripert and On the Table, which took viewers all over the world, from Virginia to Korea, from Australia to Jordan. Episodes include making Clams Montecito with Drew Barrymore, talking food, sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll with Anthony Bourdain, and creating Two-Minute Calamari: Sicilian Lifeguard Style with Mario Batali. Ripert’s participated in the Top Chef TV series and appeared on chat shows from Live! With Kelly to Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Letterman, and Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Ripert is also the chair of City Harvest’s Food Council that aims to “increase the quantity and quality of food donations” and has hosted Tibetan Aid Project’s Taste & Tribute New York benefit dinner and auction, to “support efforts to restore Tibetan-language texts to libraries all over the Himalayan region.”

On May 25, Ripert will be in conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic and L. A. Times columnist Jonathan Gold at South Pasadena Library to promote his new book 32 Yolks: From My Mother’s Table to Working the Line.

Vroman’s states: Hailed by Anthony Bourdain as heartbreaking, horrifying, poignant, and inspiring, 32 Yolks is the brave and affecting coming-of-age story about the making of a French chef, from the culinary icon behind the renowned New York City restaurant Le Bernardin.
