Traffic cones block westbound lanes across Glendale-Hyperion bridge./Veronica Reynolds.
Traffic across the Glendale-Hyperion bridge linking Atwater Village and Silver Lake was disrupted for much of today as DWP crews repaired a broken water main.
A 16-inch water main burst at about 2 a.m. in the 3000 block of Hyperion Avenue near the west end of the bridge, according to a spokeswoman for the Department of Water and Power. That lead to the closure of some traffic lanes and water service to about a dozen apartment buildings. Water service was restored around 6 p.m. and street repairs are expected to be completed by 8:30 p.m.
The shut down prompted officials to divert westbound traffic headed out to Atwater Village across the bridge to Glendale Boulevard and Riverside Drive.
