USC appoints first woman to head medical school; man seeking dog lost in East L.A. freeway crash

Med School:  USC has appointed physician and researcher Laura Mosqueda to head the Keck School of Medicine after two previous deans resigned amid separate scandals during the past 18 months. Mosqueda will be the first woman to head the medical school since its founding in 1885.   CBS2  & USC

Missing Dog: A man has launched a search  for a dog named Panda that was ejected or ran off when his vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run crash on the 60 Freeway near Downey Road in East Los Angeles. KTLA

RIP: Photographer Laura Aguilar, whose work included portraits of the regulars at an El Sereno lesbian bar called the Plush Pony, has died at age 58. Her photos and career were the subject of a recent retrospective at East LA. College.  L.A. Times

Pension Fund: Cynthia M. Ruiz  of El Sereno has been elected President of the board of the Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System.  Ruiz, an executive coach and leadership expert who has presided over the city’s Board of Public Works, becomes the first Latina to oversee LACERS’ $17.1 billion trust fund. LACERS
