Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck a pedestrian late this afternoon at Hyperion Avenue and Monon Street on the border of Los Feliz and Silver Lake.

The victim was taken to a hospital following the collision that took place at about 5:30 pm, said Sgt Werner with the LAPD Central Traffic Division.

Werner had no further details about the collision and was awaiting word from detectives for the latest details, including the condition of the victim.

Postings on a neighborhood Facebook group said that police were looking for a gray-colored car that drove off on Hyperion. The driver was supposedly familiar to the staff at Gelson’s, according to the post. However, Werner could not confirm those details.

A traffic signal was installed at the intersection, near a Trader Joe’s and Gelson’s Market, in 2007 following several accidents.

Update @ 10:05 pm: The victim suffered serious head trauma but appears likely to survive, said Detective Felix Padilla with the Central Traffic Division.  Videos of the incident were too blurry to get a good image of the license plate, so detectives are searching databases to find possible matches, he said.

The suspect was described as a Latino male wearing a hat, Padilla said. He was driving a gray, 2014-2018 Mustang.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call the LAPD Central Traffic Division at (213) 833-3746.
