Fire heavily damages Highland Park home [updated]

HIGHLAND PARK — Firefighters took about 30 minutes to put out a blaze that broke out tonight in a vacant home in the 700 block of N. Avenue 56, according to the L.A. Fire Department.

The blaze began at about 9:30 p.m., with the one-story home being “well involved” in fire at one point, the LAFD said on Twitter. No injuries were reported.

Update @ 10:52 pm: The home, which was being renovated, was “heavily damaged” by  but neighboring, wood-clad homes had only superficial damage, said the LAFD. The style of the home, which was initially described as Victorian, has not been determined according revised LAFD information.
