Fire breaks out in Silver Lake alley

A plume of black smoke  and flames shot up into the sky over Silver Lake today as a pile of  debris caught fire in an alleyway near Sunset Boulevard and Benton Way. No injuries were reported from the blaze, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters that broke out shortly after 12 p.m.  One resident involved with the Coronado Elsinore Neighborhood Watch said flames shot up 40 feet into the sky from the alleyway, which parallels Sunset Boulevard between Benton Way and Coronado Street.
