SILVER LAKE — New homes are being built across Silver Lake, with most being individual projects or relatively small clusters of new development. But on a hilltop once crowned by the former Monte Sano Hospital & Sanitarium, one of the neighborhood’s largest residential developments, the 63-home Latitudes at Silverlake , is now under construction.

The project on Waverly Drive at Glendale Boulevard stirred up concern among neighbors worried about increased traffic, density and construction activity, especially with another large project planned a few blocks away on Rowena Avenue.  There was also a recent confrontation between a neighbor and a member of the construction crew that was caught on video tape.

Construction, however, has continued, with a “soft opening” expected  in July and a grand opening in September, said Colleen Lakshin, director of sales and marketing for LaTera Development.  The three-story townhomes, which range in size from two to four bedrooms, are expected to be priced in the $600,000 range, she said.
