Early morning quakes hit Echo Park and Silver Lake

Two small quakes rattled the Echo Park and Silver Lake area early this morning, according to preliminary information posted by LA Quake Bot.

A 2.9 quake hit around 2:20 a.m and a second tremor measuring 1 struck a few minutes later.

These were  defined as “micro quakes” by automated systems at the Southern California Earthquake Data Center but were apparently large enough to awaken and be felt by many people in El Sereno, Highland Park, North Hollywood and Pasadena, according to Twitter and Facebook users.
