City opens escrow on L.A. River property; Boyle Heights school honored

  • The effort to turn approximately 42-acres of railroad property along the L.A. River into parkland moved forward after a City Council committee voted to open escrow on the parcel on the border of Cypress Park and Glassell Park, said the Friends of the L.A. River.  The city has allocated more than $40 million for the purchase but the cost of cleaning up to remove toxic elements could end up costing more than $250 million.
  • The U.S. Department of Education  honored KIPP Los Angeles College Preparatory School in Boyle Heights  as a National Blue Ribbon School. L.A. School Report
