El Sereno  — Cal State L.A. got a jump start on Veterans Day celebrations with a military flyover on Thursday. At the controls of the huge U.S. Air Force transport plane was alumnus Lt. Col. Brian Peters.

The 174-foot-long C-17 Globemaster III roared 1,000 feet over the El Sereno campus, where a crowd had gathered in the University-Student Union Plaza to honor military veterans. More than 300 veterans are currently enrolled at Cal State L.A, according to university officials.

“When I went to Cal State LA [the flyover] was never something I dreamt of,” said Peters, who graduated in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology, in an interview with the Cal State L.A. News Service. “Now, how cool is this? My career is coming full circle.”
