A quick spin through Echo Park film history

Jan 25, 2013

One of the landmarks of the silent film studios that once lined Glendale Boulevard in Echo Park was Mack Sennett’s Cyclorama, a towering drum of spinning scenery that served as  a backdrop for some of Sennett’s films.  The Cyclorama and most of the other signs of  the century-old Edendale film community disappeared long ago. But neighborhood historian Rory Mitchell created a video above to show what it would be like if that Cyclorama was still spinning in place a few feet from Glendale Boulevard and Effie Street. In a post on HistoricEchoPark.org,  Mitchell said:

The next time you’re stuck in traffic on Glendale Blvd, try picturing Mack Sennett’s Cyclorama in its original location just behind OJ Plumbing on the southwest corner of Glendale Blvd and Effie.
