This week we’re featuring another artist who will be participating in this spring’s Open Studios Tour, June 4-5.

Toti O’Brien is a mixed media artist and has exhibited in solo and group shows in the U.S. and throughout Europe. Additionally, she’s illustrated two book and two memoirs. Her art work has been published in the online magazines SpeechlessSix Little Things (discontinued), and Maudlin House.

Her artistic expressions are numerous and diverse. From the Earth is a coloring book in four languages while Night Stand is a mixed media art book included in an installation called “Sonia.”

“Noah’s Ark 4” and “Purple Angel” are part of O’Brien’s extensive sculptural pieces, which also features pitchers, bowls, platters, and vases. She delves into craft making: ornaments, aprons, tea cozies, and what she calls nursery landscapes; as well as dabbling in jewelry—earrings, bracelets, and necklaces.

And there’s more. O’Brien also dances, teaches dance, plays the accordion, sings (folk and opera), and writes.

How it happens – even more, how it doesn’t. How it vanishes, and sometimes it gets stuck. If it were a bird, you wonder who taught it to fly: clearly, it would need more lessons.
—Toti O’Brien, excerpt from “Wounded,” published in FiveOnTheFifth.com
