Open Studios for the Holidays

Dec 3, 2014

K_Swaydan_Orange__05-2014It’s that time of year again. No, not time to take out the holiday boxes or planning a sit-down dinner for twenty-five. It’s time for Open Studio Days, when a slew of talented artists and craftspeople open their doors and welcome the public to walk right in.

For the fourth year, artist Kathleen Swaydan invites one and all into her studio space where she’ll be showing and selling her works, along with her friends—the inventive Kate Carvellas with her assemblages, Beverly Jones‘s jewelry, and Eve Kessler with watercolors of goldfish that are bold, affecting, and full of grace and movement.

Participating artists also include Nina Ehlig, Anita Finnegan, Annie Fourguette, Lisa George, Nancy Halpin, Lisa Houpt, Beverly Jones, Heather Morrow and Lynda Pyka.

There will be treats and drinks, live music, and art in the yard, under the carport, in the living room, one the walls in the kitchen, and even stacked in the hallway. It’s Patrick Gothard Art as far as the eye can see and he welcomes the public into his home and studio once again. Tour, browse, maybe have a bowl of chili (or whatever he’s cooking up this time), and even take a seat and sip a brew.

Open Studio days are opportunities to see artists in their environment, where they create, unpolished and raw, vital and dynamic. This isn’t your typical gallery show. This is walking into an artists’ personal space and experiencing their creative element.

Fifteen artists will exhibit and sell their works at nine studios around Altadena and north Pasadena. Leslie Aiken at L.A. General Store Design will be at her studio with Deb Halberstadt, and thingmaker and ceramicist Dave Lovejoy will have his backyard and studio open. They will be joined by Ana Marini, Sonali Kolhtkar, Daarina Abdus Samad, Janeli Mithani, Renee Rusak Strouse, and Leah Knecht at their respective studios.

  1. Patrick Gothard says:

There is a correction…to let all know, there’s a wrong address on the map for Daarina Abdus Samad studio, the right address is 946 Dolores Drive. Location is correct.
