In these days leading up to the next Open Studios Gallery Tour, June 4-5, we’re pleased to feature Daarina Abdus-Samad—ceramic, mosaic, and jewelry artist.
Daarina has been a teacher in the Pasadena Unified School District for 20 years. She has teaching credentials in single subject and art education, and a Masters in Design-Based Learning curriculum development.
She inspires her students to think creatively, inventively, and outside of the box. Her ceramic, mosaic, and jewelry art convey a story-telling spirit that she hopes makes you smile. (Provided text)
Daarina’s Ceramic Designs evolve from endless creative epiphanies waiting to be exposed to the world. The medium of clay encourages enumerable options and possibilities. I strive to create unique art to share stories, capture moments, and to form one-of-a-kind functional pottery and body ornaments. My slogan, “Turning Mud into Meaning” describes the process and surprises that result as the clay and I share voices in it’s existence.
Saturday & Sunday, June 4th-5th, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

It’s two days of art in every medium, as well as nosh, live music, yoga, poetry, an open mic, and even a shaman.
The Open Studios Tour features over 75 artists in 41 locations around Pasadena and Altadena. This is a unique opportunity to meet artists in their creative habitat and have your senses filled by incredibly varied and worthy art.
The weekend begins on Friday, June 3 with Open Studios’ “Evening of Art. The art preview is at 6 p.m. and the live auction at 8 p.m. JazzZone performs live and a cash bar is available thanks to Gail and her crew from the Altadena Alehouse. Dia de los Tacos offers street tacos and Altadena’s Sweeter than Honey Baking has got the cupcakes.
Come hear live music, enjoy a cocktail and eats, bid on art, and meet Open Studios artists. (All proceeds help offset the costs of producing the next Open Studios tour.)
