Chekhov’s The Seagull or Stupid F*cking Bird

Jul 1, 2014

Bird-FeetIt’s described as Chekhov “with a lot more snark.”

Stupid Fucking Bird, written by Aaron Posner and directed by Michael Michetti, is an “irreverent mix” of Chekhov’s The Seagull and an aspiring young director who rails against the art created by her mother’s generation and a nubile young actress wrestling with an aging Hollywood star for the affections of a renowned novelist.

Everyone discovers just how disappointing life, art, and growing up can be.

Chekhov’s characters still ruminate on love, revolution, and the pursuit of happiness, but this time with a lot more snark as the subtext bubbles to the surface.

With  music, meta-theatricality, and mad humor, playwright Aaron Posner beats The Seagull to a bloody fucking pulp. (BostonCourt)

This sounds too good to miss (especially since the cast includes a character actor we’ve always enjoyed, Arye Gross).
