Living Gluten-Free During the Holidays

Sep 30, 2015

Michelle-Lee_gluten-free-pizzaNo reindeer shaped sugar cookies? No freshly baked croissants? No malted milk shake, Doritos, chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream? No soy sauce?

The wonderful world of flavors, textures, and tastes evaporates before our very eyes as we consider the reality of a gluten free holiday menu. We might as well growl, “Ba humbug” and pull the covers over our head. Why not just put coal in our stocking? How will one get through the holiday season without wanting to scream and run from the room?

How can one survive dinner, feasts, parties, and celebrations without enjoying a cold brew and an extra pour from the gravy boat?

Michelle Lee aims to prove that one can “live large and eat well without gluten.” On October 8, at Flintridge Bookstore, she’ll be leading a discussion, offering a prize give-away, and signing her book Living Luxe Gluten Free.

“Hassle-Free, Allergy-Free: Surviving the Holidays without Gluten & Other Food Allergens” is the title of Lee’s talk and she’s here to help people not only survive, but enjoy holiday get-togethers where eating is a major activity, and to instruct how to accommodate guests who have food allergies.

Lee, currently a Manhattan Beach resident, has lived in Spain, Luxembourg, Chicago, Atlanta and her “culinary style reflects her passion for food” and her intimacy with these varied cuisines. Lee adjusted her approach to cooking to accommodate her husband Steve’s need for a gluten- and lactose-free diet and after six years of experimenting and refining, she was ready to share her recipes and cookbook Living Luxe Gluten Free (Salut Studio, 2015) with the gluten-free world.

Connect Gluten Free says Michelle’s cookbook is “one of the most visually stunning cookbooks… ever.. [not just] for gluten free [but] EVER. Michelle has raised the bar on gluten free and all other cookbooks with this incredibly gorgeous book. (Official text)

The cookbook has over 110 gluten-free recipes, as well as “paleo, vegan, vegetarian, dairy free, low sodium, and low sugar dishes.” In addition, Lee provides full nutritional information, recommends allergen-friendly products, and suggests—best of all—drink pairings. Sign us up!

Celebrate Gluten-Free magazine writes: “Living Luxe adds the healthy and alternative spin to comfort meals without creating extra work.” Bonus!

Check out my blog for a more in-depth (and affordable) paleo cookbook!

  2. Kat Ward says:

Thank you, Frank, for sharing your blog and informing us about your paleo cookbook, especially for those who need to count pennies. That being said, $30 for a cookbook is not unreasonable and we would say there is room for all—all books, all perspectives, all menus; readers can make their comparisons and choices. Thanks for working to keep us healthy!
