Gerda Govine Ituarte is a woman we’ve come to know; initially over a bowl of soup at Euro Pane (the original) and subsequently via quick chats at events, some phone calls, and email. She’s a businesswoman, a consultant, an activist, a supporter, and a poet. We admit readily that we are not learned when it comes to poetry, yet her pieces have made us swallow hard and try to stem our emotions, have made us laugh out loud, and have made us close our eyes and inhale a breath of sweet air.
Gerda’s third book of poetry “Future Awake in the Mouth of NOW” was published in 2016 by Editions du Cygne (Swan World), Paris. She currently has a long list of events in which she’s participating—and we would urge attendance to at least one, if not several.
Mothers watch daughters who listen with their eyes
whose voices bloom they flower between rain drops
weave their lives inside dreams
with grandmothers’ breath
A second look
Winter fades as I do
rain swells earth
possessions float away
goodbyes ride shoulder
no hand holding
time lived time left
did I spend enough time
where the light is?
