Interloper or family member?

Interloper or family member?

Fred’s role in our house seems to be unclear.  James and I feed him and fix his little scrapes.   Leia is fine with him at all times, save food time.  Then he is tolerated as long as he doesn’t touch her food.   Larry is comfortable with Fred spending time with us and seems [...]

Larry and his pad

Larry and his pad

What a week.  James’ back has been bothering him, so out comes the heating pad. Guess who thought it really was for him.

For Kate

For Kate

Thirty seven years ago I was in the maternity ward of Pomona Valley Hospital.  My ex and I were ready for our baby.  We were post-Lamaze trained; he was ready to coach, I was ready to push.  We were three weeks post-due date when labor began.  Mid-labor all of the training became unnecessary.  We were [...]

Aurora’s other victims

Aurora’s other victims

Just learning about the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado.  Very tragic situation in so many ways. Over the next couple of weeks folks will learn more about all involved – postulation and speculation are sure to follow. I’ve not seen the movie, but what I’ve read and seen of the trailer this clearly is a movie [...]

Big Work in a little town

Big Work in a little town

It’s not unusual for James and me to head out to Santa Paula.  It’s a grand little town.  It has precious little traffic, fresh sea air, a phenomenal butcher, and a pace that seems to refresh both of us.  We were recently at the Rodney Fernandez Gardens.  The corn is grown in the middle of [...]

It’s all in the hands.

It’s all in the hands.

I was planning to write a bit about the Bandini/Elliott family a couple of weeks ago.  But I have to make an admission here, I have two addictions.  The first, is an addiction to coffee.  The second, as if you didn’t already know, is an addiction to historical research.  There are worse addictions to be [...]

A matter of perspective

A matter of perspective

Some days it seems  that Larry gets  all the attention. Sigh.

O say can you sing

O say can you sing

Today is Bastille Day.  I was reminded of this because one of my friends sent me this link to Youtube.  I’ve added a link at the end of this post. Many of my friends deeply believe in the national motto of France – “Liberte, egalite, fraternite/ Liberty, equality, fraternity”.  These friends are diverse enough that [...]

Our very own Larry and mantle

Our very own Larry and mantle

It’s raining outside.  Not only do we know this from the sound of raindrops – fats ones, I’m guessing – hitting the ground. Larry brought us proof on his fur. He is drying off now.  We may go about our business.

Even on a hot day

Even on a hot day

It’s parade planning time so I found myself at City Hall yesterday.  It was hot, hot, hot, but the skies were clear. The light on the cupola gives a sense of the heat. Even in the heat of the day Pasadena City Hall radiated in her own distinct manner.
