Summertime means more than just flowers at the L.A. County Arboretum — it means it’s time for concerts under the stars, preferably with a good picnic dinner first. The California Philharmonic kicks off its summer season this Saturday with a concert at the Arboretum called “By George,” featuring works by George Gershwin, George Handel and George M. Cohan, including “Music for the Royal Fireworks” and excerpts from “Porgy and Bess.” The concert starts at 7:30, but most people arrive after the gates open at 5:30 to set up and enjoy a picnic dinner while listening to live jazz.
On Sunday night, Cal Phil takes the same show to Walt Disney Concert Hall; click here for details on that performance.
